Instructional Technology Specialists and Curriculum Work
Instructional Technology Specialists and Curriculum Work Instructional technology has changed over the years in schools; the job of an instructional technology specialist has changed also. With the current emphasis on integrating technology into the curriculum, it stands to reason that instructional technology specialists should be involved in activities that are related to curriculum work, or that are in fact, curriculum work. This book helps us understand the connections between district-level instructional technology specialists and district-level curriculum work by creating a framework through which we can compare the work of these two groups of workers. The resulting information provides educators with suggestions of ways in which to ensure effective technological support of the curriculum so that student achievement can be maximized and so that resources can be used responsibly and effectively. This information should be useful to district-level administrators who are seeking to use technology to improve student learning and to any other educators interested in the connection between instructional technology and curriculum.

UNCC LRC I-Tech Showcase: Google Earth Activities for Foreign Language Classes

The Language Resource Center at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte hosted this Instructional Technology Showcase on October 11, … all » 2007. Rosalba Scott, Lecturer in Spanish, and Dale Pike, COAS Associate Dean of Instructional Technology, discussed how to develop language learning activities using Google Maps. Dale Pike provided an introduction and overview of Google Maps and demonstrated how it integrates with other common internet tools. Rosalba Scott demonstrated exercises she has developed for her Spanish students. Google Earth is a satellite imagery-based mapping tool. It enables users to “fly” from space to street level to find geographic information and explore places around the world. Google Earth is more like a video game than a search engine – it's basically a 3D model of the entire planet that lets you grab, spin and zoom down into any place on Earth. The level of detail in the maps is quite amazing and allows students to see buildings, topography, and other features of any place on the map. Google Earth can be used for language, culture, and literature courses. For example, students can virtually visit the Eiffel Tower, the Great Wall of China, or their neighborhood down the road. Students can annotate maps on Google Earth with vocabulary terms, historical facts, literary information, or write sentences in the target language describing virtual visits to foreign cities.  «
